Two rare vintage Oruba Silver dessert spoons. They are stamped with the name Oruba Silver, a flag emblem and the initials WH. They were probably made between 1910 and 1930. They are marked silver but does not have any silver stamps. Therefore it must be nickel silver. They are of high quality, hard and in good condition. WH stands for Walker and Hall, the renowned Sheffield silversmiths who also used electroplating techniques and alloys. They were established in 1895 in the UK, but also opened branches in Australia and South Africa. The Oruba was a ship that has been linked to a few historical events and characters such as the disgraced Archduke Leopold of Tuscany and the future Habsburg Emperor Franz Ferdinand whose assassination in 1914 led to the start of WW1. Oruba items are great collectables for anyone interested in Maritime, the British Empire, and European history pre WW1.
