TWO STUNNING HAND BLOWN "CRAQUELE GLASS" COBALT BLUE VASES ENCASED IN HAND CHASED METAL STANDS

THESE TWO AMAZING HAND BLOWN "TALL" CRAQUELE GLASS COBALT BLUE GLASS VASES HAVE A STUNNING HAND CHASED NICKEL PLATED (I THINK) METAL CASING/ STAND AROUND THEM AND EACH VASE MEASURES 34cm TALL. THE VASES ARE IN FANTASTIC CONDITION WITH NO CHIPS OR CRACKS (AS STRANGE AS THAT SOUNDS; PLEASE SEE BELOW). THE HAND CHASED DETAILING AND THE METALWORK DETAILING GIVE THESE VASES A NORTH AFRICAN/ MOROCCAN FEEL. THESE ARE TRULY STUNNING AND VERY UNUSUAL VASES.

CRACKLE GLASS IS ALSO KNOWN AS CRAQUELE GLASS, OVERSHOT GLASS, AND ICE GLASS. VENETIAN GLASS MAKERS OF THE 16th CENTURY ARE BELIEVED TO HAVE INVENTED THE PROCESS. SUBMERGING A HOT PIECE OF GLASS INTO COLD WATER FORMS CRACKLE GLASS. THIS PROCESS CAUSES FINE CRACKS TO FORM OVER THE SURFACE. THE GLASS IS THEN REHEATED IN ORDER TO SMOOTH THE SURFACE AND SEAL THE CRACKS. CRACKLING DOES NOT AFFECT THE SHAPE OR COLOUR OF THE PIECE.
