Although that the manufactures state that the range is "UP TO " 5 Km range its most of the time not 100% accurate. This is actually a excellent two way radio set that can be a lot of fun and will be helpful in the right circumstances but out of experience i find that you really have to keep the following into mind before you purchase this item:

1. The maximum range will vary depending on terrain and environment.
   
2. Open field provides the maximum range. Farm , flat country etc.Then you can get maximum range out of this excellent two way radio set but dense bushes and a lot of trees like a jungle will also limit range.
   
3. Steel , concrete structures, heavy foliage and the use in buildings will also limit the range.
   
4. The use inside vehicles to communicate with another person in another vehicle will limit range significantly because of the metal surrounding you but in open vehicles or game vehicles you can still get sufficient range but also depends on the surroundings.
   
5. Wearing the radio close to the body, such as in a pocket or on a belt with metal will decrease range then simply just change the location of the radio.
