This item is secondhand and in overall good condition considering their age - showing rust and scratches. These are two collectable 1943 World War 2 empty Kersfees/Christmas tins, issued to the RAF servicemen stationed in Cape Town, South Africa by the South African Gifts and Comforts Committee, at Christmas time. The tin originally held a ration of 14 cigarettes made from South African tobacco. Mr Jan Smuts (South Africa's Prime Minister during WW2) and his wife, Mrs Isie K. Smuts are both embossed on the top right hand corner of the tin. The left hand bottom corner of the tin is embossed with a Springbok's head looking through a red letter 'V' for Victory. The inside of the lid shows a message written on both English and Afrikaans, and signed by both Mr and Mrs Smuts. Similarly there is a message in both English and Afrikaans on the base of the tin "With best wishes from the South African Gifts and Comforts Committee'.
The tins each measure 11,3 cm long, 7 cm in width, and stand 2 cm high. Please view images as part of description. Welcome to combine items.
