Here we have a ultra rare and very collectible pocket watch from the 1800's probably around 1870 certainly before stem wind pocket watches were available. This full hunter pocket watch was produced for the Turkish Ottoman Empire. It has an elaborately engraved Roskopf 2 key movement, the brass silver plated case made by the Oris case company which I presume later became the Oris watch company, measures approx 55 mm in diameter and 23 mm thick. It has a porcelain dial with black Ottoman/Turkish numerals and black hands.
This piece of history considering its age and that it was well used, is in all round good condition, balance wheel is good and swings freely, hands set with key as they supposed to. Has 3 issues that need to be sorted out to get it up to its glorious self.
1 The main spring click is damaged and will need to be replaced or repaired.
2 It takes 2 different size keys to operate this watch, one with a big opening to turn the hands and the other with a much smaller opening to wind the mainspring. I only have one for turning the hands. The chain and key will accompany this watch.
3 The front cover where the lip catches on to the catch mechanism is worn and looks like it was soldered in the past and will need to be attended to, if it is to open and close correctly. This watch has a very interesting like split head operation you press the front one to open the front cover and the back one to open the back cover.
I am hoping that there is somebody out there who has the skill and what is necessary for this ultra rare around 150 year old treasure. But even as it is its a collectors prize.
Please note the last 4 images are basically the same as this watch except the casing has a different pattern and the dial which is branded Syteme Roskopf is more ornate with different hands and the exact same movement. It is being offered in working condition on Ebay by a Bulgarian antique dealer for close on R11,000. The last 2 images shows what the click is supposed to look like on the main spring barrel.
NB. I reserve the right to withdraw this offer and to delete suspect bidders. Its your duty to read and look at all images and ask any questions you may have before bidding.
