Uncommon British 1905 (Just after Anglo Boer War) QF 18-Pounder Mark 1 Gun Brass Shell Casing Reloaded Many Times and Used in WW1  

ON AUCTION IS THIS BRITISH QF 18 POUNDER GUN BRASS SHELL CASING MANUFACTURED IN 1905 JUST AFTER THE ANGLO BOER WAR. IT FEATURES VARIOUS INTERESTING MARKS TO INDICATE THIS SHELL WAS RELOADED MANY TIMES AND FIRED DURING WORLD WAR I PLEASE HAVE A LOOK BELOW.

Finding a 1905 date is uncommon, as the gun was only introduced in 1904 and mass wartime production did not peak until 19141918. The British QF 18-Pounder brass shell was developed in 1904 following lessons learned by the British in the Boer War - the "Quick Firing" (QF) system utilized a complete brass cartridge case to hold the propellant charge, which drastically increased the rate of fire.

MARKINGS: 
a) 18 PR means Pounder which is shortened to "18-PR".  Pounder denotes a gun which fired a projectile of approximately 18 pounds.
b) I MEANS Mark 1 
c) CF - Charge loaded with cordite England
Extra F next to CF - Every time the case went back to a National Filling Factory to be reloaded with another full charge, the factory would stamp another F next to or below the original "CF".
d) 1905 on shell casing Year of manufacture 
2/09 on primer cap Feb 1909 Primer Fitted
e) BROAD ARROW - BRITISH MILITARY ACCEPTANCE / PROPERTY MARK
f) RL - Royal Laboratory at Woolwich, England, which was the principal British government arsenal for manufacturing and filling artillery ammunition during WWI and WWII. If you see "RL" stamped on an 18-pounder brass shell casing (or its primer), it indicates that the Royal Laboratory either manufactured, repaired, refilled, or inspected the component. 
g) A typically signifies that the brass casing underwent low-temperature annealing to strengthen the metal, or indicates it was repaired and refurbished for reloading. 
The Ordnance QF (Quick-Firing) 18-pounder was the standard field gun of the British Empire during the First World War. Introduced in 1904, the highly reliable and mobile artillery piece fired approximately 100 million shells, serving as the backbone of the Royal Field Artillery until it was gradually replaced in the 1930s. (The term "quick-firing" (QF) indicated that the projectile and the brass cartridge case contained the cordite propellant which were loaded together as a single, unified piece of fixed ammunition.)
