A Fantasy Crown of Edward VIII for South Africa dated 1936. Struck in 1984 at the instigation of Richard Lobel (Coincraft, London) who wanted to offer collectors the opportunity to have coins that might have been if Edward had not abdicated. 2,500 Crowns in copper nickel were struck for each of the Commonwealth countries. This is an example of the South African coin. About ten years ago large numbers of Edward VIII fantasy Crowns were produced to a very different design.
