Very rare issue of Token used in Second World War Internment Camps (Koffiefontein, Andelusia & Baviaanspoort)

The cash of the Internee was swopped for these Tokens as a measure to prevent escape.  When the men were released, they were redeemed but were not allowed to be taken out of the Camps.(Engelbrecht pg 129)

Hence their rarity.

Dimensions: Size 26mm square thickness 1.9mm  as per Hern pg 274
