This unique token coin has been in my collection since the 1970s. I came across it while living and working in Ixopo. Unique tokens from this region are in great demand. On page 44 and 45 of Milner Snell’s book “Tokens of the colony of Natal” he discusses this token and its background. I believe that I have the only known St Faiths 6d in existence today. It is probable that this St Faiths token had a very small mintage and only this piece survives today.
Hern in his 2009 book on South African tokens uses the image of this coin - see page 259. He records a very low suggested value of R7,000. In his 2004 book Hern valued it at R4,000.
The coin comes with a free copy of Napier De Witt’s extremely rare hard covered 127 page book "Galloping Jack" (published 1937) which covers the remarkable history of John Royston. Royston owned the St Faiths store at the time this token was minted. He was a decorated war hero nicknamed “Galloping Jack”: Find out more about the book "Galloping Jack" here (I have two copies of the hard covered book “Galloping Jack” the book included here FREE is not the one signed by Napier De Witt. There have been recent soft copy reprints of "Galloping Jack") The book included here is in excellent condition as are its original wrapping considering their age. In over thirty years I have only come across these two copies of this original hard covered book which gives a wonderful background to the extraordinary man behind the St Faiths coin.
Displayed below is a scan of the receipt for the R3,550 I paid in 2006 for the copy of “Galloping Jack” included FREE with the St Faiths coin for sale here.

Ironically I was offered US$5,000 for this coin a few years ago by a United States collector of trivia that bore the words “St Faiths”. I was not ready to sell one of my most prized items at that time.
