THIS PARTICULAR STONE WAS BOUGHT FROM A SELLER IN THAILAND IN 2011 WITH THE COUNTRY OF ORIGEN INDICATED AS THAILAND. IT HAS A SI2 (INCLUSIONS EYE VISIBLE) CLARITY WHICH MEANS INCLUSIONS ARE PRESENT AND CAN SEEN WITH THE NAKED EYE WHICH IT CLEARLY IS. IT WAS ALSO SOLD AS A NATURAL UNTREATED QUARTZ GEMSTONE.
 
TESTS PERFORMED: SCRATCH TEST: IT DID SCRATCH A GLASS WINDOW PANE EASILY WHICH WOULD INDICATE IT IS HARDER THAN GLASS. (MOHS HARDNESS QUARTZ 7.0 GLASS 5.5-6.5)
UV LIGHT TEST: NO REACTION AS EXSPECTED FROM QUARTZ. (When electrons are excited by a source of radiation, they jump to a higher energy level around the nucleus of the atom. The excited electron remains in this excited state for a short period of time until it falls back to its original ground state. As the electron returns to its ground state, it emits energy either as heat or as visible light (fluorescence). ONLY 10% OF GEMSTONES EXHIBIT AN FLUORESCENCE AFFECT LIKE RUBIES, SAPPHIRE, TOPAZ, OPALS AND DIAMONDS. GLASS AND ALL QUARTZ VARIETIES DOES NOT SHOW A UV AFFECT.
GEMTESTER TEST: NO GEMTESTER TEST PERFORMED. (These testers separate gemstones from one another based on their thermal conductivity or the rate at which electricity or heat transfers through the stone and are very accurate.)

RUTILE QUARTZ:
Rutile Quartz is clear quartz that has a black or reddish-brown mineral consisting of titanium dioxide  embedded in it. This typically occurs needle-like.
Like other types of quartz, rutilated quartz is fairly strong, with a Mohs hardness rating of 7. It's also affordable, but more expensive than some types of quartz. The average price per carat for rutilated quartz is $20. This is due to the interest in its whimsical needle-like pattern.
Rutile and tourmaline can sometimes appear the same but rutile inclusions are generally golden or reddish and tourmaline inclusions are black or green.
The chief source of Rutilated Quartz is Brazil, and another important source is India. It is encountered elsewhere but is uncommon from other locations.
Rutilated quartz has come into its own as a mainstream gem material, thanks in part to its seemingly infinite variety and one-of-a-kind appeal for jewelry designers.
