On auction a previously "unknown" origin chest webbing - I recently sourced this piece and it has some interesting inscriptions on the piece - NOW ID'ed asa SAP piece!
Any comments and/or ideas re the origin and/or use of this particular chest webbing are most welcome!
Well made and sewn in a style similar to the "Recce" pattern 80 chest rigs in circulation also made form ripstop canvas.
This item is in good condition although the metal (uncoated) buckles are a little surface corroded, some aging of the black elastic resulting in sagging of the elastic itself, otherwise is in great condition and complete.
Appears to have 2 x side pouches sized for HE frag grenades and 3 x large main ammo pouches - for what really eludes me! These pouches are massive! If they were curved I would have said BREN mags, but these are straight!?!
If this is in fact a SAP piece - for what weapon ammo mags was this designed???
No labels or makers marks - quality workmanship/ sewing and very well put together - earlier it was speculated that it was a possible trials rig or unit custom item from the riggers shop? BUT - now the "evidence" seems to indicate a large number made........??? it is clear that this was the first (pre-production - approved design) piece of 75 made ........also dated 1984!
Please note that the KZN homelands police camo used as a background is not included in this auction!
Happy bidding!!!!
