Here we have a really scarce and never before seen piece (by me at least!).
This appears to be a chest rig/ harness intended to carry a hand-held radio across the chest.
Made from and in the SADF patt 70/73 webbing materials and style.
The Modern Kenwood TK388 radio shown for display and scale purposes only - it appears that this harness would fit a early 80's or 90's TEDELEX type handheld radio (who can remember those!?!).
On the rear of the main panel are what appears to be a "book nr" of some sorts - possibly referring to ops use and or issue (?)
This piece consists of a main panel and 2 removable straps (each fastens with 2 x metal press-studs allowing minimal adjustment) - intended to criss-cross at the rear and be worn across the chest as a chest rig/ harness with the radio mounted above the sternum.
My speculation re use may be for MP's or Artillery crew members around a gun line or even marshalls at a shunting yard (eg. Railway Police or SAR members (?) - any comments welecome!
Please note that the camo used as a background is not included in this auction.
Happy bidding!!!
