2008 Proof Sterling Silver Limited Edition International Polar
Year set in SA Mint wooden presentation box with Certificate of
Authenticity #369
This is an interesting and unusual set consisting of a R2 Crown, a
Tickey and a solid silver model of the SA Agulhas, the oceanographic
research vessel of South Africa. It is one of a Limited Edition of 1000,
in an attractive SA Mint wooden presentation box. The set celebrates
the International Polar Year 2007 - 2008.
The SA Agulhas model weighs 20 grams.
The R2 Crown also depicts the SA Agulhas:
The Crown is a large coin with 38.725mm diameter and weight of 33.626 grams. As you can see, the other side of the crown is also very attractive showing the new SA Coat of Arms and the official languages.
The Tickey has a map of the Antarctic, with a Protea on the other side.
Please note that this set is still sealed in its original SA Mint packaging. Hence the photographs and scans on this page are not of the actual coins or set. I've included both scans and photographs because the scans show the exquisite detail but photographs capture the lustre and real beauty of the coins.
Both coins are encapsulated. The Limition Edition set is numbered 369.
