UNUSUAL AFRICAN WOODEN WALKING STICK WITH WARTHOG TUSK HANDLE

AN UNUSUAL ITEM RARELY SEEN. A HAND CARVED WOODEN WALKING STICK THAT HAS THE HANDLE SET WITH THE LOWER TUSK OF A WARTHOG. THE SHAFT IS AROUND 90CM HIGH UP TO THE HANDLE. NOTE THIS ITEM IS VINTAGE IN AGE AND WAS USED AS A WALKING STICK.
 
THE WARTHOGS (PHACOCHOERUS AFRICANUS) NAME IS INSPIRED BY THE LARGE WARTS ON THE MALE'S HEAD AND FACE. THESE "WARTS" ARE ACTUALLY CARTILAGINOUS BUMPS OF TISSUE THAT PROTECT THE FACE AND EYES FROM INJURY DURING FIGHTS WITH OTHER MALE WARTHOGS.

WARTHOGS:
The Warthog has a reputation of being a dangerous animal as many a leopard can account for. So much so that one of the world's most fearsome combat aircraft is generally known, not by its official name of Thunderbolt, but as the Warthog.
Although the upper tusks look impressive, it is the shorter lower tusks honed to razor sharp edges by rubbing against the upper ones, which are the real weapons. The upper tusk can reach up to 30 cm, the lower tusk can reach 13 cm in length.
They are omnivoures and will eat pretty much anything if they have to and there full set of molars can attest to. Warthogs are hardy survivors and can live in various habitats. They are currently not a threatened species.
