Unusual Antique Silver Vinaigrette (1837)
This very early, attractive, fine silver 'William IV' vinaigrette with its original internal gilding, was made in Birmingham, England in 1837 by silversmiths 'Gervase Wheeler'. It has an unusual narrow, slim oval shape with a fitted loop and jump ring at one end, so it could originally be worn on a chatelaine. There's an engraved lattice type decoration on both sides, with a small blank cartouche on the lid. The grill is decorated with a very pretty, floral engraved and pierced pattern. The vinaigrette is in excellent condition with the hinges working well and the lid closing securely. It measures 40mm (excluding loop) x 20mm x 7mm.
