Its bronze with a portrait of the prince and enscribed "Eugene Louis Jean Joseph Napoleon Prince Imperial" and the other side is inscribed "Ne Aux Tuileries A Paris Le 16 Mars 1856 MORT Au Champ D'Honneur A ITELEZI(Zululand) Le 1 Juin 1879"
