Klaxons were first fitted to automobiles and bicycles in 1908. They were originally powered by six-volt dry cells, and from 1011 by rechargeable batteries. Later hand-powered veresions were used as military evacuation alarms and factory sirens. They were also used as submarine dive and surface alarms beginning in the Second World War.
This item is secondhand and shows signs of typical wear with paint chips and surface rust. It has a brass plaque attached with the Klaxon name and '49 Upper Brook St, W.I. Overall, a very interesting and unusual item. Height - 12 cm Diameter - 11 cm.
