SOME COLOURFUL ROCK AND GEMSTONES SAMPLES FROM THE BLUE AGATE TO THE PINK AND BLACK RHODOLITE TO THE BRONZE COLOURED PYRITE. TWO GREEN STONES IN AN JADEITE ROCK SAMPLE FROM CHINA AND AN FUCHSITE ROCK SAMPLE FROM SPAIN. ALL NAMES INDICATED ON FRONT PANELS WITH COUNTRIES OF ORIGEN INDICATED AS WELL.
 
SOME INTERSTING ROCKS IN THIS COLLECTION ARE:
Gold leaf is an extremely thin sheet of gold (about 0.1 micrometre) for gilding. Medieval illuminated manuscripts gleam with gold leaf, and it is still widely used for gilding ornamental designs, lettering and edgings on paper, wood, ceramics, glass, textiles, and metal. Pure gold is 24 karat. But 22 karat gold leaf is approximately 91.7% pure gold with some silver and copper added. The current gold price of 22k per 1 Gram in South Africa is R1057. The bottle with gold leaf inside weighs 7,81G. The miniature 5ml glass bottle is 30mm high and 22mm in diameter and weighs according to online sources 7,08G. This leaves us with around 0,73G of 22K gold leaf with a value of R770 at current gold spot prices. 
Jadeite is the rarer of the two jades (the other being nephrite) , and as a result, it is considered to be more precious and valuable. The history of jadeite goes back several thousand years when it was first used to make weapons and tools because of its toughness. It is considered to be the imperial gem in Chinese culture. In China,  was found in the tombs of Shang kings.
Iceland Spar is the Icelandic medieval Viking sun stone used to locate the sun in the sky when obstructed from view by using the light polarizing property of this stone. It contains no impurities, so it's nearly colorless and transparent to both visible and ultraviolet light. For centuries, the only source of this pure calcite was located near Reydarfjördur fjord in eastern Iceland, hence most of the world called it Iceland spar.
Aragonite is a crystal that consists of carbonate and is formed from precipitation in marine and freshwater environments. This crystal mainly occurs in deposits around hot springs. Aragonite was first discovered in the Aragon river in Spain, where it received its name. It has been found in many locations worldwide since.  Many ancient fossils have been found preserved in Aragonite specimens.
Pyrite is a brass-yellow mineral with a bright metallic luster. The name "pyrite" is after the Greek "pyr" meaning "fire." This name was given because pyrite can be used to create the sparks needed for starting a fire. Pyrite has a nickname that has become famous "Fools Gold". The mineral's gold color often cause it to be mistaken for gold by inexperienced prospectors. 
Desert Rose is a (more or less) rose-like crystal group formed by precipitation in arid desert regions containing trapped sand particles.
