Title: Van Ryn's Viceroy Old Liqueur Brandy Bar Mirror.
Manufacturer: Unknown.
Height: 48.0cm.
Width: 60.0cm.
Info: Brandy was first made at the Cape in 1672. After the British introduced quality controls in the 19th century, grape farmers and distillers began to explore brandies that expressed a local character. Many of the brandy makers of the 19th and 20th centuries were fiercely independent, with an appetite for adventure resourceful risk takers, who werent afraid to experiment in an effort to find a better way of doing things.
Among these were Jan van Ryn, who came to the Cape in the mid-19th century, and later his sons Johannes Hendrik and Jacobus, who pioneered new techniques, winning the attention of discerning palates in London and Europe.
Their rich, fruity aromas are concentrated during distillation in locally designed copper stills, significantly adapted in size and shape from the French prototype.
