Thanks to SIGG, toting a water bottle has become pretty trendy; it lets you show off some personal style while also saying you care about the planet. Vapur‘s water bottle, touted as the Anti-Bottle are a new approach to the reusable water bottle. While there’s been numerous reports in the news showing how bad bottled water is for the environment (since it’s often not better than tap water and uses a lot of energy to move around the world, let alone the plastic it comes in), existing water bottles forget one important fact of buying bottled water — you can throw them away! While I personally don’t mind toting a water bottle with me when I’m out for a hike or otherwise have a good-sized bag, I know that those SIGG or Nalgene bottles aren’t going to get any smaller as I drink from them. As such, these Vapur bottles seem like both a great idea and a terrible one. Yes, I can take water without worrying about carrying a bulky bottle all day! But wait, won’t this just flop over and bug me when it’s half-empty? In truth, some intelligent engineering makes this thing work surprisingly well.
With the pull-top, drinking from this 16 oz. bottle feels like you’re using a sports bottle, since you can squeeze it, and interestingly enough, when you’re done it actually sucks air back in. This is due to the semi-ridgid, stiff sides and the fact that the water at the bottom wants to expand the container, so air rushes in before you can close the top. You can thank gravity and air pressure to this handy phenomenon that keeps the bottle upright even when there’s much less water inside. It does go floppy when the water’s almost gone, though, but at that point you can just roll it up or lay it flat and stuff it in a backpack (or purse, ladies) and, if you do roll it up, it is actually small enough to fit in a pocket, although since the opening is hard plastic you might want to put it in your back pocket. That also means that as you drink it, you are carrying around a progressively smaller container, making Vapur better than a bottled water in pretty much every respect. The very small size actually means it’s more convenient to bring with you while empty, as you can easily fill it up at work or at a drinking fountain, meaning you can simply leave it in your purse or bag. We're digging the Vapur, a refillable and flexible water bottle that can be neatly folded, rolled up or flattened when the agua's gone (or before you load it up at a water fountain). It's easy to carry around and sort of like a Murphy Bed--it's only in its bulkiest form when it's in use, and the rest of the time it pretty much disappears.
Says the company,
We have set out to make tap water infinitely portable, universally available and ethically sustainable. The BPA-free bottle will hold 16 ounces, and it can also be frozen for use as an ice pack.
