Hed Kandi advertise this compilation as, "Deeply soulful house for sun-drenched summer listening"; however, too often it sounds more like house-lite to really give the impression that it is designed for beachwear. Unimaginative beats, formulaic house vocals, and jazz fusion guitar solos dominate many of the tracks, making much of this compilation Balearic elevator music. Even the re-mixing of Hed Kandi favorite, Bebel Gilberto ("Sem Contencao"), is lacking any real charisma. There are some enjoyable tracks on here. Malena ("Para Ti") offers genuine passion on the vocals, and Karen Martinez's "Looking for Love" eventually breaks into a bassline that is worthy of a bit of foot-shuffling. Hed Kandi's in-house DJs, Fac.15, consistently turn out good work, and the sultry "Twisted By the Pool" is no different, leaving one with a feeling of both spent passion and a need to cool off in the water. Unfortunately, blasé house with few ear-bending moments dominate this compilation. This may be the future sound of lite-rock radio stations more than it is a soundtrack for beach lounging.
