Extremely rare 1902 Veldpond

investor's dream

only 986 ever minted it's believed that over 30%

of them have been melted down due to jewelers / gold exchanges

and secondhand dealers whom do not have the knowledge of rare coins making these

coins extremely rare and valuable.!

In 2020 a veldpond in a lower grade and has been polished has

sold for R290000! These coins can only pick up value over time

if taken good care of .!

The veldpond is a rare South - African coin minted during the second anglo Boer war from (1899 - 1902) .

The coins were hand made in a gold mine workshop in Pilgrim"s Rest, a remote mining village in South - African veld. The name "veldpond" is Dutch for "Field pound".

HISTORY

The British took control of the National Mint in Pretoria, preventing the minting of new South - African currency.

Boer soldiers fled to Pilgrim's Rest and needed money to buy food from black tribes.

The boers melted down gold bars and nuggets to make coins.

A former school teacher, P.J. Kloppers, was appointed the head of the mint.

The coins were stuck using a hand press and one pair of dies.

The coins were minted in June 1902, 15 days after the singing of a truce.
