The Rapier V1 is a USB mouse from Verbatim that's primarily aimed at gamers. It feels comfortable in the hand, not too small or too large and weighty enough to appear solid without being cumbersome. It has a good ergonomic shape and is about the same size as my Dell mouse yet feels smaller - looking at them side-by-side the V1 could perhaps do with being a bit higher at the back and a bit lower at the front; I have medium-sized hands and I think I'll get used to it without too much trouble. It comes with a 6' USB lead and has a small compartment in the base that holds 5 small weights, each about the size of a watch battery, which help to give the V1 a feel of solidity. Remove them and it gets lighter and takes on the air of being a bit more flimsy, so the average user may want to keep them in.
As well as the requisite left and right buttons, the V1 has a handy switch to change the DPI resolution, and with it the pointer speed, and an equally handy double-click button for fast opening of applications. There's also a button for switching been standard and gaming modes (more on this later), a backlit middle/wheel one and two for navigating backwards and forwards in explorer windows. The mouse itself feels good to use and the backlit wheel and DPI indicators definitely give it a more home of the future look.
