Description:
Low growing, bushy spreading habit with wiry stems and stiff, rough textured, toothed leaves. Small rounded heads of bright purple to magenta flowers from June to September. Similar in character to Verbena bonariensis, but much lower growing.

Cultivation:
Well drained, moderately fertile soil in a sheltered, sunny position. Very tolerant of heat and drought. May spread by underground runners. Trim top growth in late winter.

Propagation:
Direct sow outdoors in fall, or winter sow in vented containers, coldframe or unheated greenhouse. Stratify if sowing indoors.

Design and Other Uses:
Can be used as ground cover for dry areas. Attractive to bees and butterflies.

Native to Brazil and Argentina.
