Book looks brand new and unread to me.  >>>    Melanie Verwoerds book, The Verwoerd Who Toyi-Toyied, essentially tells two separate stories in two countries and involves several different characters. South Africans will relate easily to the first half of the book, which is set primarily in this country and involves events and people we know.    The author was married to Wilhelm Verwoerd, grandson of former prime minister Hendrik Verwoerd, for 15 years. The couple "overturned the ossewa" when they joined the African National Congress (ANC) in the 1990s. Melanie was the youngest woman ever elected as an ANC MP in 1994. She was re-elected in 1999.    The second half of the book takes place in Ireland, where Verwoerd was based as South African ambassador from 2001 until 2005, and executive director of Unicef Ireland from 2007 until 2011 and tells the story of Verwoerds relationship with Irish broadcaster Gerry Ryan.   * Africana * History * Apartheid * Politics *
