Very old VOC-period Sundial from Stellenbosch district dated 1690
The copper sundial measures 250 mm x 250 mm and stands approx. 170 mm high.
It reads "Tyme passeth & speaketh not. Amende to-daye & slack not". Also "Anno Dom" with the date "1690" and the name "J. Marsh" and "Londini" (the Roman word for London). The sundial used to be fixed to a mill stone on the farm Kleinvallei in the Stellenbosch district.
There was also an old cannon on the farm that was donated by a previous owner, Jannie de Wet, to the Stellenbosch sanatorium.
