Very Rare - 1900 St.Helena Prisoner of War Medal ( Hern No 298 )

Please Have a look at the exact images of the item that you are bidding on : The Medal is Listed in Hern's Handbook on the Medallions of the ZAR and the Anglo Boer War 2008 ( Page 75 )

Hern No 298 Ref AM132 St Helena Prisoner of War , 1900.

Size: 46 mm Metal Cradboard covered with copper ,white metal or lead

Edge; Smooth

Artist: Mr J.L.Le Franc

Number made : 20 - very doubtful.

It is said that only 20 were made by a French Prisoner of War and that all the medals were bought by A Cape person and then destroyed. Hern doesnt believe this story because too many have been offered in the market place for the destory story to be true

Bronze: value R4500
Lead: value R5500
