VERY RARE PERFUT MANTLE CLOCK
BRASS FHS MOVEMENT WITH QUARTER HOURLY CHIME AND HOURLY
GONG
I HAVE SEARCHED EXTENSIVELY ON THE NET AND ENQUIRED WITH LOCAL COLLECTORS, BUT NOWHERE WAS I ABLE TO FIND AN EXAMPLE OF THIS EXACT CLOCK! THE FHS MOVEMENT WAS USED IN HERM CLOCKS. THE CLOCK IS ESTIMATED TO HAVE BEEN MANUFACTURED IN THE 1930's.
THIS CLOCK DOES NOT HAVE A PENDULUM, BUT OPERATES ON A FLOATING BALANCE MECHANISM.
I could find no info on the name "Perfut", but the clock has an FHS floating balance movement and is finished in high gloss veneer with an oak backing and movement door. It features the option to mute the sound of the chimes if needed. It has beautiful quarter hourly chimes and a gong on the hour.
This clock is in 100% working condition. Cosmetically it is in very good condition, with no chips or cracks in the case. The dial has some minor marks and wear as can be seen in the image below. This can only be seen in the right lighting and is not very evident. The dial cover still has its original curved glass with no major scratches. The movement runs smoothly and keeps time well, but the clock needs to be positioned perfectly and kept very still. If it is moved suddenly, it might stop but it is easily started again by moving the floating balance wheel. The original key is included.
The clock is approximately 48cm x 10.5cm and 18cm high. The dial is 16cm in diameter.
The movement is a 69 FHS 340-020 - Made in Germany. The floating balance wheel can be seen at the top of the movement in the image below.
