This bayonet would've been used on a Lee-Metford rifle, what is particularly interesting is that this particular bayonet must've been used by the South African UDF. The Union Defence Force was formed in 1912, by that point the Lee Enfield was used a lot more predominantly than the Lee-Metford, making this bayonet incredibly rare.
The U with a broad arrow can be seen on the sheath, below this is another broad arrow and the letters "EF"
On the one side of the pommel it says 4 F.A. S.A.M.C 100(So possibly South African Medical Corps? The 4 FA might be 4 Field Ambulance Unit?)
On the other side of the pommel is a C then another broad arrow, then a G
On the one side of the ricasso is A broad arrow and EFD (Enfield) below that is a crown with the number 58 and the letter E below that
On the other side of the ricasso, some of the markings are rubbed but there's a crown and below that is the number 10 and possibly 07
I do not close auctions early. Any questions about closing early or a "buy now price" will be ignored.
