Here on auction we have a SADF era Para Battalion issued Bateleur 90 pack cover (item number 5 in the Bateleur range) in great used condition with no damage/ no tears or rips and all buckles present and fully functioning.
These "pack covers" were also known as "spinnekops" (spiders) and were used to cover the big-pack (grootsak - backpack) during kit jumps and also functioned as a pack rain cover after landing as well as being used for any possible water obstacle crossing needs. See the "black" legs of the spider in the pic below???
This is the "backpacker" made version - the Bateleur 90 para kit/ webbing range consisted of 5 itmes and was also made by 3 different contractors (each differing slightly). The pack cover is the most difficult item of the range to find after the special design allu frame.
This item (kit-bag) is as new and the nylon is still water-proof without ANY de-lamination or separation of the inside water-proof coating or lining (as often is the case with older nylon kit products) - fully functional bag.
The kit-bag itself consists of a large single, main compartment with two heavy-duty carry-handles (in black nylon strapping).
