This exceptional, late Victorian claret jug has a beautiful, tall, hand cut crystal spreading body with a very decorative silver-plated mount (spout, handle, lid). The spout has amazing detail and is cast in the form of 'Bacchus/Dionysus', the Greek god of wine and the grape harvest. The collar or sides of the mount and top of the hinged lid are all nicely engraved. Other than wear/scuff marks to the underside of the base, from usage, this incredibly good quality claret jug is in excellent condition. It measures 31cm in height, 15.5cm handle to spout, has a base diameter of 15cm and weighs 1425g.
