What must have been a fine Victorian regimental waistcoat in its day and is still in fairly good condition for its age. Scarlet cloth edged with silver braid which is detached in places but is still whole. Pockets too are decorated with the same braid. Four silvered buttons carrying the words "South Devon Militia" and a coat of arms with queen's crown, and made by Jennens & Co. London, at the front. The gilded buckle at the back carries, what appears to be a date, 1863 and also the words "Solide Paris". There is also another mark with a coat of arms which is a bit indistinct. Some insect damage and the lining has small tears in places. Parts of it seem to have been hand stitched. No makers name. A scarce piece of militaria.
