Victorian Silver Gilt Christening Fork & Spoon Set (Chawner & Co. 1867)
This fabulous, antique, cast solid silver, dessert sized Christening spoon and fork, from the mid 1800's, are beautifully decorated and embossed on both sides with amazing detail, featuring young lady's holding a flower on the front and young men seated playing a 'lyre harp' on the back. They were made in London in 1867 by the sought after silversmiths 'Chawner & Co.' (GA) (George William Adams), who were the most important manufactures of spoons and forks in London and participated in the 1851 Great Exhibition and the 1862 International Exhibition and were suppliers to the top retail houses. This wonderful pair are in excellent condition with no engraved monograms and still retain their original gilding. They measure 18cm in length and together weigh 127,2g.
