Inter-Allied Victory Medal 1914-1919 Miniature Original Great War Service Award
Original miniature Victory Medal (Inter-Allied Victory Medal) as issued for service during the First World War, offered here without the Mentioned in Dispatches oak leaf device.
The Victory Medal was authorised in 1919 and awarded to all British and Imperial forces who served in a theatre of war between 5 August 1914 and 11 November 1918. Each Allied nation issued its own version of a Victory Medal, with Great Britains example designed by W. McMillan. The obverse features a striking winged, full-length figure of Victory holding a palm branch in her right hand, while the reverse bears the powerful inscription THE GREAT WAR FOR CIVILISATION 19141919 surrounded by a laurel wreath. The distinctive watered-silk ribbona central orange stripe merging through red into a rainbow pattern of violet, blue, green, yellow and redrepresents the Allied powers. This miniature version was privately purchased for mess dress, tailcoat, or miniature medal bar displays.
Please note: This example does not include the bronze oak leaf device for Mentioned in Dispatches. It is offered as the standard issue miniature Victory Medal.
