Vie Long Horse Hair Shaving Brush (American)

Vie-Long started making horse hair shaving brushes in 1940, and still uses traditional time-honoured production methods.

The Vie-Long Professional #1 shaving brush made with natural brown horse hair, not bleached. An excellent combination of firm hair and soft tips thanks to a dedicated process that Vie-Long applies to the tips. Horse hair allows very good water retention. The shape of the brush is a tribute to the classic American barber style. The handle is specially  treated in a cream colour coating and the ferrule is brown. 

Please note: Horses are not harmed during collection process. “Hair cut” is part of the horse's care and hygiene routine.

How to use:

The brush bristles should be wet (not soaking) before use. Load the loft with soap or cream and apply to the areas to be shaved, using a strong circular motion. This softens the hairs and also raises them ready for shaving.

We strongly recommend the following aftercare for your brush; When finished always rinse the brush under hot water (especially at the base of the bristles) to remove any remaining soap residue which can result in damage to the bristle and cause early shedding of the loft. The brush should then be stored loft facing down to dry. This can be achieved by using a shaving brush stand and prevents the bristles rotting at the base due to moisture.
