Vigna Caracalla?
10 seeds
"Snail Vine"

Please note: these seed where donated to me by a plant collector, not obtained through my normal channels. I trust the person who supplied them, but the risk as always, is yours.

Vigna Caracalla or better known as Corkscrew Vine, Snail Vine or Caracalla Bean belongs to the Fabaceae family. This tropical climber is well-worth growing even if it is just for her look! And as a bonus, it is attractive to bees, butterfly and the birds.

This twining vine is an ideal plant to grow if you want to cover a vast fence. While it is a bit slow in its first year, it takes off vigorously after that and will quickly hide any eyesore. In early summer it can grow 30 cm a day! Once it has reached the extent of the area that you want it to cover, cut the leaves and tendrils back and it will flower profusely. As long as the tendrils are running it won't set much flower. The Vigna Caracalla seeds need to be scarified first. Then soak them in warm water for about 12h hres. The seed should plump up considerably with soaking. Then, put the seed into a moist paper towel and into a sealed baggie. Keep them at a temperature of about 22-24¿¿C (75-80¿¿F). They should germinate in about 10 days. Seeds can also be sown outdoors in spring where germination will occur in 10-15 days. Indoors or outside, sow the seeds at a depth of 4 times their own size. Once you see any seedlings, prick them up and plant them in a pot filled with a good potting soil. Plant them outside next spring. Germination can take longer. Be patient!
