Vintage 1932 GEM Micromatic Single Edge Open Comb Safety Razor In Original Case
The Star Razor Company was founded in 1875 by the Kampfe brothers who immigrated to the US from Saxony in Germany. Jerry Reichard, who worked for the Kampfe brothers for 23 years, left the Star Razor Company in 1898 and founded the GEM Cutlery Company, later renamed to The Gem Safety Razor Company. GEM became one of the world's most famous razor and blades ever made.
All GEM razors were manufactured of the best materials and they were built to last a lifetime. All serious shavers consider GEM razors to be amongst the best out there, giving a BBS shave. The single edge blades also last longer between shaves, since they are thicker and keep their edges much longer than a thin double edge blade.
Considering that it is 85 years old, it is in excellent condition and well looked after. As can be expected, after 85 years' of use there is some plate loss and fine scratches on the head. The case is in reasonable condition, but the hinge part is broken. An absolute collector's piece and true gem which would last at least another 85 years. Do not miss the opportunity to own a piece of history!
These razors use the normal single edge razor blades. We do supply these and you can find them here:
There is a HUGE resurgence worldwide to the traditional wet shave. And the reasons are simple:
1) The best shaves ever
2) Very cheap
3) Very satisfying - nothing like a clean shaved face
4) The nostalgia, the ritual and the smell
5) One has to get up 10 minutes earlier, but the whole experience is worth it!
And ask yourself the question: Why do all professional barbers worldwide still use traditional shaving tools? So come on people, join the millions who know what a shave should be like!
