ON AUCTION IS A VINTAGE 1940S POWDER COMPACT WITH A PETIT POINT EMBROIDERED FLORAL DESIGN ON LID. SET IN A CREAM ENAMELLED CASING.
THE COMPACT HAS FIRM HINGE AND SECURE CATCH AND OPENS TO REVEAL A FRAMED GLASS MIRROR UNDER THE LID WHICH HAS A FEW MARKS TO THE EDGES ONLY AND IS OTHERWISE CLEAR AND REFLECTIVE. THE POWDER WELL IN THE BASE HAS A USED PUFF.
THESE COMPACTS WERE PRIMARILY MADE IN GERMANY, MARKED "ROWENTA FOREIGN" WHICH INDICATED A NON-DOMESTIC PRODUCT IN THE EXPORT MARKET (E.G., TO THE UK).
THEY FEATURED AN INTRICATE PETIT POINT (NEEDLEPOINT) FLORAL EMBROIDERY ON THE LID, OFTEN BORDERED BY A LAYER OF ENAMEL (SOMETIMES IN A MARBLED EFFECT).
SIZE: 70MM DIAMETER 1CM HIGH
CONDITION: SOME SCRAPES AND SMUDGES TO ENAMEL. PETIT POINT IN GOOD CONDITION. LID OPENS EASILY. MIRROR IN TACT.
