Coal scuttles originated in the18th century as containers for storing and carrying coal to be used infireplaces. They were a common fixture in Victorian homes, often made ofwood or metal and sometimes decorated with carvings or metal trim. Whilethe primary use of coal scuttles was to hold coal, they were also used to storelogs or ash. Today, antique coal scuttles are still valued by collectorsand can be used for various purposes,
