TUSCAN (1878-1967): Tuscan Fine China was founded 1878 Staffordshire, England by R. H. Plant. The Plant family were important potters back as far as 1775. They were a strong family business, well run by generations of family members, until 1967 when they were taken over by Wedgwood, who added the name Royal as a prefix. The quality of Tuscan bone china is also as good as it gets it is very hard, fine bone china which holds the glazes and decoration beautifully.
BONE CHINA IS IN FACT MADE FROM BONE: The bone ash that is used in bone china is made from cattle bones that have a lower iron content. These bones are crushed before being degelatinised and then calcined at up to 1250 °C to produce bone ash. Lightweight yet durable, bone china is usually more expensive than other china thanks to pricier materials (yep, the bone ash) and the extra labor required to make it.
