VINTAGE 1960S SET OF BANDA CARPET BOWLS. BANDA CARPET BOWLS ARE MINIATURE BOWLS MADE TO SIMULATE THE GAME OF LAWN BOWLS BUT WITH A SUITABLE BIAS FOR PLAYING ON CARPETS AT HOME. THESE PREMIER QUALITY BOWLS HAVE BEEN MANUFACTURED BY BROOKES & ADAMS UNDER THE BANDA TRADEMARK SINCE 1930.
This set of miniature carpet 'Table' bowls is made of composite and comprises of eight lawn bowls and one jack, all in original 'Banda' cardboard box. Each bowl is 50mm in diameter, marked 'Banda, 2 Bias, carpet bowls, made in England' and are coloured in pairs, white, red, blue and yellow.
THE GAME IS PLAYED IN MUCH THE SAME WAY AS NORMAL BOWLS, WITH ALL THE BOWLS HAVING THE CORRECT BIAS AS IN FULL SIZED BOWLS, BUT ON A TABLE OR FLOOR. A BILLIARD OR SNOOKER TABLE IS IDEAL.
The origin of Table Bowls is unknown but it is likely that the Victorians invented it as part of the craze for all sorts of parlour games. A whole number of indoor/parlour games were invented, this included miniaturised versions of the popular outdoor games at the time, including bowls and croquet.
