Vintage 1960s Jacob Maul Germany Metal Model Regent Letter Scale Working

THIS IS A COLLECTABLE JACOB MAUL GERMANY METAL LETTER SCALE. VINTAGE 1960s ITS A MODEL BRAND REGENT. IN WORKING CONDITION.
 
ALTHOUGH INTENDED FOR WEIGHING LETTERS IT IS VERY FUNCTIONAL AS A KITCHEN SCALE AS WELL.

CONDITION: SOME USED WEAR BUT IN GOOD WORKING CONDITION.
 
JACOB MAUL GMBH (1912-present):
Jakob Maul GmbH was founded in 1912 by Jakob Maul (1866/671953). Jakob Maul, son of a Rhenish Hessian wine farmer, had learned and worked with his uncle Phillip Jacob Maul in his letter scale factory in Hamburg At the age of 45, he acquired the property of a former comb factory in Bad König in August 1912. A month later he founded the metal goods factory.
During the two world wars, the company had to contend with personnel concerns and massive material procurement problems. By 1936 the workforce had increased to 160 people; after the end of the Second World War, work was resumed with only around 50 people. 
In 1953, qualified engineer and son-in-law Fritz Scharmann, who had been working in the company since 1923, took over overall responsibility for the company after the death of Jakob Maul.
In 1999, Maul introduced the world's first purely solar letter scale. In 2012 Maul celebrated its 100th anniversary.
 
LETTER SCALES:
With the British postal reform of 1839, in which the fees for sending letters were changed from the distance to the weight of the respective letter, it became necessary to determine the weight of the letters using letter scales .Since nothing comparable existed until then, English businessmen tried to create the simplest possible devices for everyday use that could be used to determine the weight of a letter.
The scales were even more interesting for merchants and private individuals than for the post office itself. A number of scale manufacturers at the time brought corresponding products onto the market that were suitable for home and office use.
One of the first manufacturers was the publicist and postal reformer Henry Hooper. Hooper had already filed a patent for a postal scale in August 1839. The scales were intended for a total weight of 4 ounces and had corresponding markings for ½ ounce, 1 ounce, 2 and 3 ounces.
Most of these letter scales work according to the principle of the tilt  scale.
