VINTAGE 1960S LANCASTER AND SANDLAND MR MICAWBER DICKENS CHARACTER JUG WITH YEOMAN EPNS LID

A VINTAGE CIRCA 1955-1968 LANCASTER AND SANDLAND MR MICAWBER DICKENS CHARACTER JUG
WITH A YEOMAN PLATE EPNS RIM. MADE IN HANLEY, STAFFORDSHIRE, ENGLAND IN THE 1960S.
MR MICAWBER HAS A PROPER GENTLEMANS HAT WITH AN ATTACHED WALKING STICK SHAPED HANDLE.

Wilkins Micawber is a fictional character in Charles Dickens's 1850 novel David Copperfield. The thing about Mr. Micawber is that he is incredibly eloquent and well-spoken, but he is also criminally bad with money. Eventually, Mr Micawber is sent to debtors' prison which is a Victorian institution that allows whole families to share a cell with the head of the household who has been imprisoned, so the Micawbers all pile in to Mr. Micawber's tiny cell. While Mr. Micawber is in debtors prison, he and several of the other inmates draft this amazing letter to the House of Commons petitioning for a change in the laws dealing with debt.

MOST CHARACTER JUGS OUT THERE ARE FROM THE ROYAL DOULTON COMPANY AND CHARACTER JUGS FROM SMALLER PRODUCERS ARE HARDER TO FIND.

PLEASE NOTEI HAVE VARIOUS CHARACTER AND TOBY JUGS ON AUCTION THIS WEEK. ITS A GOOD TIME FOR ANY COLLECTOR TO ADD TO HIS COLLECTION.
