TULLAMORE DISTILLERY: Tullamore D.E.W. distillery was first established in 1829. Tullamore is a town in Ireland, a small town which today has a population of almost 13,000 people. DEW or D. E. W. are the initials of one of the greatest distillers Ireland has ever had, his name was Daniel Edmund Williams. The distillery prospered under the direction of Daniel Edmund Williams, who began working there aged 15 and took over at its helm at just 25. His initials were added to the distillerys name to create the well-known Irish blend Tullamore Dew. The distillery closed in 1954, but the brand was bought by Powers, which became part of the Irish Distillers group in 1975. Since 2010, Tullamore Dew has been owned by William Grant & Sons.
WHISKEY WITH AN E: Note the E in Irish Whiskey. Scottish Whisky is spelt without the E. They did this on purpose to distinguish themselves from Scottish Whisky.
UISGE BAUGH: IT IS BASICLY THE OLD GAELIC WORD FOR WHISKEY and literally translates to 'water of life. ' Whisky's reference to water is quite apt since whisky is usually drunk in times of joy or celebrations or during rough times when one needs the warmth of creature comforts.
