The Post Office from England dates way back to 1660 when it was established by Charles II. Under the guise of the General Post Office (GPO), it soon grew as an important organisation integral within the infrastructure of England during the seventeenth century. From 1707-1801 it serviced Great Britain and from 1802-1969 the United Kingdom. A pillar box is a type of free-standing post box. They were commonly found in the United Kingdom on every street corner in classic red.
