The SA Schools Cadet Corps badge is a collectible item that was part of the South African military's cadet program for schools. It's a cap badge, typically made of white metal, and was worn by students participating in the cadet program. The idea of cadet units in schools originated in Britain and was adopted in South Africa in the late 19th century. One of the earliest examples is the Naval Cadet Unit at the Marist Brothers College in Johannesburg, formed in 1894.Cadet training initially focused on naval and military skills, preparing boys for potential service. In 1976, a major shift occurred and the cadet units in white schools were brought under the control of the SADF, with the aim of preparing boys for national service and instilling patriotism and citizenship.
