DC Comics is one of the oldest and most influential comic book publishers in the world, with a history that stretches back to the early days of American comics. The company was founded in 1934 as National Allied Publications by Major Malcolm Wheeler-Nicholson. The name DC comes from Detective Comics, one of its early and most successful titles, first published in 1937. DC rose to prominence with the introduction of Superman in Action Comics #1 in 1938, a moment widely regarded as the birth of the superhero genre. This was followed by the debut of Batman in 1939 and Wonder Woman in 1941, forming what would later be known as DCs Trinity. These characters quickly became cultural icons and helped define the Golden Age of Comics.
