Title: Vintage Alfred Meakin Marigold Astoria Shape Tureen Dish with Lid. Manufacturer: Alfred Meakin, Made In England. Height: 10cm Diameter: 24cm. Info: Tureen dish with Lid in the Marigold pattern; first used in 1937 from the Alfred Meakin Tunstall Pottery. The dish has the Astoria Shape with the 1930's Alfred Meakin Stamp on the base. Alfred Meakin Ltd was set up in 1875 and operated from the Royal Albert, Victoria and Highgate Potteries in Tunstall. Alfred Meakin was the brother of James and George Meakin who ran a large pottery company in Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent Alfred Meakin died in 1904 and was succeeded by his son Alfred James who died only four years later. Alfred John's uncle Robert Johnson bought the company for his son Stuart Johnson and it stayed in the Johnson family's hands until 1976 when it became Myott-Meakin before becoming part of the Churchill Group. Condition: Very Good, it appears to be hardly ever used, the pattern, trim and edges all are in very good condition, no fading of colours, no chips or crazing. most likely the Tureen has been on display and unused.
