VINTAGE 7,63 ct AMETHYST SOLITAIRE STERLING SILVER ON ITALIAN STERLING SILVER CHAIN

This very simple necklace features a large oval faceted amethyst solitaire of 7,63 carats. It has been claw set into a frame of sterling silver and strung on a box-chain sterling silver chain that bears hallmarks that show its origin as "Italy". It also has an "F" for the jeweller and 925 for the steriling silver. One side of the pendant bail is a leaf shape and has been engraved with foliage marks. The whole necklace is solid sterling but has been finished in a gilt, a strong indication of its age! The amethyst is in perfect condition but on the metal sections, some of the gilt is a little worn in place around the setting and the chain. Not sure how old it is but the vintage jeweller from whom I acquired the piece reckons it's design and the use of gilt would suggest around the 1940's/1950's. However, there is no hallmark indicating age so thats a best guess! The amethyst is a fairly strong lilac colour.
