Vintage Art Deco Bowl in the Springtime Pattern.
This Maling Ware bowl is characterized by its "thumbprint" design and pink lustre glaze with hand-painted spring flowers like tulips and daffodils.
Produced by C. T. Maling & Sons. It was made in Newcastle upon Tyne, England.
Maling pottery has an established history dating back to 1762. This specific style of floral lustreware was commonly produced in the 1930s during the Art Deco period.
Did you Know? Maling pottery operated from 1762 to 1963. During that period the factory produced over 16,500 designs, and many records were lost, making identification of specific patterns difficult without the marks. This bowl features the characteristic Maling "lustre ware" finish, a technique used by the company in the 19th and 20th centuries.
All Maling pottery of this type was produced pre-1964, which is when the factory closed. Based on the handwritten pattern number 6525 on the base, your bowl was produced between 1950 and 1955.
Made in England, 1950s.
